Update Phil Hoch 7-11-2014
First of all, Happy 4th of July!!!
I apologize for not getting updates out to you better. Well Dad has had an interesting last 4-6 weeks. As of this writing he has used up all of Medicare Part A (the "hospital" part, in this case it includes rehab) and is still at Pioneer Ridge, but is now on the "nursing home" side due to all of the assisted care he currently needs.
Therapy goes well but slow. During the 4-6 weeks he got pneumonia again and due the CHF, age or what ever he gained at least 20 pounds that the facility didn't seem to notice or figured it was due to over eating. Any way the chest fluid is off and Dad is much perkier and back on track with his speech therapy (for relearning proper swallowing, to prevent the pneumonia) and physical therapy for the left side of his body. Attached should be short video of his latest achievement. We are not sure that he will walk much but will help him in many other ways.
At this point in time Candy and I are figuring he'll stay in Lawrence for a while yet. We are still taking it one step at a time, and as it comes. Now we need to get the correct wheelchair for him with his left arm.
Love to one and all from our families to yours.
Elaine
